Do I Need Both, Serum And Moisturizer?

I’m a minimalist.

When it comes to skincare, I truly think that less is more.

However, serums and moisturizers help the skin in different ways.

Sometimes a serum alone will be enough for what your skin needs, but it’s important to know the difference and when or why you might need both.

What Is a Face Serum?

Serums are typically lightweight formulations that are packed with actives. They target a specific skin concern: they fight your wrinkles, reduce dark spots, prevent acne or brighten your skin.

What Is a Face Moisturizer?

Moisturizers are thicker and creamier than serums. They're meant to hydrate the skin and prevent water loss by protecting the skin’s natural barrier that keeps moisture in, and germs out.

Some serums are also hydrating, like our Revitalizing Face Serum – Papaya & Piña, so you might be fine without a moisturizer.

However, if you have dry skin, you will want to apply a moisturizer after (like our Vitamin C Face Oil - Coco & Café) to seal-in the skin’s moisture.

Is It Safe To Layer Serums and Moisturizers?

Absolutely! serums and moisturizers can work together; serums use their active ingredients to repair the skin, while a moisturizer can prevent the evaporation of moisture and lock in the benefits of the serum.

When layering them, make sure to apply your serum first and your moisturizer last.
